Stitch Fix and AI merchandising tool innovation |
Enhancing the personal styling service with data-driven technology |

Stitch Fix, the online personal styling service, is making significant strides in enhancing its offerings through advanced technology. The company has introduced a proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) merchandising tool aimed at refining inventory management and personalizing client experiences.
By analyzing client transactions and feedback, this AI tool enables the merchandising team to predict demand more accurately, leading to better decision-making. This strategic approach has contributed to a 9% year-over-year increase in average order value (AOV), driven in part by higher keep rates.
CEO Matt Baer highlighted the positive impact of these investments, noting improvements in the quality of the company's assortment and a healthier inventory position. He emphasized that these efforts are yielding tangible results.
In addition to inventory enhancements, Stitch Fix is leveraging AI to strengthen client-stylist relationships. The company has enhanced its AI models to provide better recommendations to human stylists, ensuring clients receive products that align closely with their preferences. This initiative has led to the highest percentage of clients requesting the same stylist for their next Fix in nearly five years.
Stitch Fix is also investing in its Freestyle offering, which allows shoppers to purchase curated products on demand. By adopting advanced, data-driven forecasting tools, the company expanded its shoppable selection by more than 20% without increasing inventory ownership. These initiatives have contributed to Freestyle returning to year-over-year growth, with expectations for continued improvement.
Addressing potential tariff impacts, Baer expressed confidence in the company's ability to manage such challenges. He noted that Stitch Fix and its partners have experience navigating tariffs and do not anticipate significant effects on client prices or margins in the upcoming fiscal periods. The company's diverse portfolio of national and private brands provides strategic flexibility to mitigate potential tariff impacts. |
